Think about a time when you exaggerated something to make a point, tell a story, or get someone's attention. What happened? What did you say? Why did you exaggerate? Looking back, do you think your exaggeration made your message more effective? Explain.
Prompt: One time that when I exaggerated to make a point was when I was in math class and the teacher assigned some extremely tedious work. I said that the work would take 1000 hours of grinding to complete. I was obviously exaggerating and my friends agreed that it would take a long time, but they thought 1000 hours was a stretch. I don't think the exaggeration made my point more effective. I know that my friends understood that I was trying to convey the amount of time this assignment would take but I don't think the hyperbole made a large impact in the effectiveness of my point.
Summary: In class today we studied new rhetorical devices.
Reflection: The class work today regarding rhetoric devices will be useful during the rhetorical analysis essay on the AP Exam. Learning about the rhetorical devices will make the rhetorical analysis easier to write about.
